Modelling Projects

Here are some models that I have created in the past. Not being an art student, I was not required to make any of them (for academic purposes), but I did anyways - mostly out of enjoyment - and I am glad that I did, as these all ended up being utilised in various academic projects.

Flak Turret

Personal Project

Tool: Maya

I created this anti-air turret, modelled after a 40mm Bofors cannon, largely due to my interests in the history of the world wars, but also because I was taking a introduction to 3d production (CG modelling) course at the time and wanted to practise some of the techniques I had learned while trying to explore new ones. With all the moveable parts on this model, properly setting pivots was very important for ensuring that parts could be moved as intended.

Though originally meant for a small UX immersion-focused project (look here), I was ultimately able to use this model for multiple projects.

Shotgun

Personal Project

Tool: Maya

This generic shotgun and its shells were models that I originally created to add to some of the existing set-dressing models that I had made and implemented in an environmental storytelling prototype set in an office building early on at the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse.

The second and third images in the slideshow show the model in context of this project. As can be seen, it is an earlier version with slightly less details than the finalised model shown in the first image.

Note: The zombie model in the images was taken from Mixamo and is not my own.

Patrol Car

Personal Project

Tool: Maya

This is a quick patrol car model that I made for the same environmental storytelling prototype mentioned in the shotgun model section above. This differed from many of my prior modelling projects as it was largely made up of continuous smooth surfaces.

My goal with this model was to create a model that effectively communicated what it is intended to be while still giving it enough details for it to be visually consistent with the other art assets I already made for the project.

The second and third images each show the model in use from different locations within the scene, complete with lighting to enhance its role within the scene.
